Self described as “downer pop-rock”, James Parm is an up and coming musician and songwriter from Montreal. After writing and performing with different bands, while simultaneously making countless demos on his own, he has found his footing as a solo artist with his debut album, “Oh My Darling”. Written, recorded and arranged entirely himself and mixed at Montreal’s famous Hotel2Tango studio, the record blends a wide range of musical styles into an original sound all its own.
Oh My Darling was written after a series of stark changes in James’ life. A serious breakup, feeling very lost at 25 years old, and an urge to destroy what was old to create something new were the major influences behind the album. (Read more)
"Montreal young blood James Parm is a highly gifted singer-songwriter with a penchant for experimentation. His work feels both novel and bold, sounding vaguely familiar, yet clearly standing apart from contemporary indie rock."
-The Vinyl District, April 3rd 2019
"(I Know I Know I Know) excels with showing the Parm’s versatility, the rock-forward mid-section evolving impressively into a hypnotic conclusion with post-punk allure, reminiscent of Interpol with the pulsating bass and moody vocals."
-Mike Mineo (Obscure Sound) March 5th 2019
"James Parm eschews in his indie rock roots in favour of a more downtempo, jazz-tinged soundscape on his epic single "1 M", which drops this week along with his debut solo album Oh My Darling."
-Mike Olinger (The Line Best Fit) April 4th 2019
"(James Parm's) new single I Know I Know I Know is an infectious nugget of crunchy pop-rock whose mantra-like chorus and classic alt-rock guitar power will keep you coming back for seconds. And then thirds."
-Darryl Sterdan (Tinnitist), April 8th 2019
"There is a lot of love about “I Know I Know I Know”, it’s clever, with a strong message, and is an enjoyable listen; with some wonderful guitar work and strong vocals. Oh My Darling as a whole is well worth your time as well, it’s creative, it’s varied and really a fantastic introduction to Parm’s musical world."
